Fake Marriage Racket Busted In Jammu, 5 Including 'Bride' Arrested

Police have busted an inter-state gang that was cheating people through fake marriages and arrested five persons, including a woman from Uttar Pradesh. Officials said at least five such cases have come to light so far, three from Akhnoor and two from Nagrota - where grooms were tricked and their money taken.

The case came to light after a groom filed a complaint at Akhnoor police station, saying he was asked to pay ₹3 lakh for a marriage proposal. After the wedding was held with all rituals, the bride disappeared within two days. Police later found that the gang was running a fake marriage bureau, arranging brides, priests, and ceremonies only to cheat men soon after the marriage.

Those arrested include two men from Poonch, one from Bihar, and two from Uttar Pradesh, including the woman who posed as the bride. Police said the gang mostly targeted vulnerable men who were unable to find a suitable match. Officials have urged people to remain cautious and report such cases immediately instead of staying silent due to social pressure.
