A bizarre incident unfolded in Prayagraj’s Phulpur Kotwali area when a bride cancelled her wedding at the last moment after knowing that the groom presented at the venue was much older than promised. The wedding procession had come from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
According to the bride’s family, they were shown a younger man’s photograph during the match-making process. However, when the baraat arrived, an elderly man, about the same age as the bride’s father, appeared as the groom. As the wedding rituals began and the bride saw the groom, she outright refused to marry him, declaring she would not marry someone so old. This sparked chaos at the wedding venue, with accusations of fraud flying from the bride’s side. Despite several hours of panchayat discussions, no resolution was reached.
Eventually, the UP 112 emergency team and Phulpur police were called to the scene. The matter was settled peacefully without an official complaint being lodged. The bride’s family provided food to the guests and allowed the baraatis to return home. Most left for Indore the same night, with the remaining guests leaving the following morning. The incident sparked widespread discussion in the local community.
