Kind Jeweller Sells Gold 'Mangalsutra' To Elderly Couple For Rs. 20

Maharashtra: A jeweller's kind gesture for an elderly couple in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has overwhelmed the internet. In a viral video shared by Instagram user Girish Bharadwaj, the couple, who were on a pilgrimage to Pandharpur, are seen visiting a jewellery store to buy a gold mangalsutra.

The elderly couple began browsing through the mangalsutra collection. After carefully choosing one, the shopkeeper politely asked how much money they had. The woman pulled out Rs 1,120 in cash. With a gentle smile, the shopkeeper joked, “So much money?” Mistaking this for a sign that it wasn’t enough, the elderly man quickly reached into his bag and brought out two bundles of coins, ready to pay the balance.

However, in a heartwarming turn, the shopkeeper refused to accept the full payment. Deeply moved by their love and modesty, he told the couple he would charge just Rs.20, means Rs.10 from each of them as a tribute to their lifelong commitment. The couple was overwhelmed, and the emotional moment left even the staff teary-eyed. The jeweller later revealed that the couple has endured many personal tragedies. Their elder son passed away, and their younger son struggles with alcoholism. Despite living alone, the couple continues to find strength in their companionship.
