Odisha: In a unique display of determination, a groom from Odisha’s flood-hit Mayurbhanj district used a boat to reach his bride’s house after rising waters submerged the roads. The incident took place in Neda village on 22 June 2025 under Saraskana block, which has been heavily affected by flooding from the Subarnarekha River. With the roads completely underwater, the groom and his wedding party initially tried to travel by land but had to turn back.
Refusing to delay the wedding, the groom decided to continue the journey by boat. Dressed in traditional attire, the groom and the entire baraat sailed through the flooded areas to reach the wedding venue in neighboring Jharkhand, where the ceremony was already planned.
Videos and photos of the groom’s boat ride quickly went viral on social media, earning widespread praise. Many locals called the wedding a symbol of love and commitment in the face of adversity. No official comments have been made by the families of the bride or groom.
