As India’s wedding industry continues to grow, so do the cases of wedding-related fraud. From fake photographers to no-show decorators, couples are increasingly falling victim to unverified vendors found through social media or personal references. Reports show a sharp rise in complaints involving advance payments and poor service delivery, leaving families emotionally and financially distressed.
Shruti and Ankit from Jaipur, who recently tied the knot in February 2025, were left devastated after the decorator they booked through an Instagram ad took a 50% advance and never showed up.
“We found him through a reel showing gorgeous mandap setups. The page had a lot of followers and reviews. But it turned out everything was fake. He blocked us a week before the wedding,” said Ankit. Unfortunately, their experience isn’t rare anymore.
To avoid such scams, experts recommend verifying vendor credentials, using secure payment milestones, and insisting on written contracts. One of the smartest solutions today is using trusted wedding planning platforms like Event Planet, which connect users to verified vendors, transparent pricing, and genuine reviews reducing the risk of fraud.
As more couples demand safety and accountability, digital wedding platforms are quickly becoming the go-to choice for modern planning. In a world where “shaadi sirf ek baar hoti hai,” it's clear that tech-enabled transparency is not just a luxury it’s a necessity.
